FAQ:
Frequently Asked Questions
Q.
Who are we?
A.
We are a registered Australian business, and are incorporated
in the USA and New Zealand. We have been recruiting drivers
for USA companies since 1999. We have now placed over 500
drivers at eleven trucking companies. We have just begun
recruiting for Canadian Transport companies. All the trucking
companies we place drivers with - have been approved by
the relevant government departments. No person can enter
Canada without the correct visa for employment. This venture
ads another dimension to the career of truck drivers. Not
only do you get to drive in one of the most beautiful countries
in the world, but you also drive the USA.
Q. What
will I be driving in Canada?
A.
Top of the line, modern trucks. Large sized 60" to 72" sleepers.
The Trucking companies give drivers top priority and the
comfort of the driver is always utmost in their minds. All
trucks and sleepers are fully heated and air-conditioned.
Freightliners, Macks’, Volvo’s, etc.
Q.
What trailer will I be towing?
A.
Fridge (reefer) vans, heated or dry vans. 48ft - 53ft in
length. Carrying anything from ice cream and vegetables
to general goods.
Q.
Where will I be driving?
A.
You will drive across North America and into the USA. Your
home and base is Canada.
Q.
How do I get my truck license in Canada?
A.
All drivers regardless
of experience must attend a driving/training school. 2nd
seat drivers without 5 years OTR experience (e.g. Wife)
will need to attend the full 13-week course.
The specific details of the
training/ schooling required are dependent on the trucking
company requirements (and the licensing laws in their province).
Q.
What do I need to take with me?
A.
These positions are for permanent relocation to Canada.
On the airplane you can only carry 2 suitcases; aprox. 20
kg in luggage. It is cheaper to pay for goods to be sent
separate, rather than pay the excessive luggage fees on
your airplane, (which charge by the kilo). Take a sleeping
bag or quilt, sheet and pillowcase for the truck sleeper,
and a minimum amount of clothes as there are washing machines
and dryers at the truck stops.
Q.
Travel Insurance?
A.
Definitely. This is compulsory for your own safety. It covers
dental & medical, plane delays, lost luggage etc up
to $250,000.
Q.
Exchange rate for Canada?:
A.
The Canadian exchange rate for $1000.00 CAD is $1030.00
Australian and $1,117.19 New Zealand dollars. (as at 10/10/04
& changes daily)
Q.
How much money will I need to relocate to Canada?
A.
Prepare for approximately $6000 Australian dollars, $6000
New Zealand dollars or
UK $2700 pounds to cover
(rental housing deposit, airfares, schooling, visa fees,
licensing etc). This is dependent on what airfare you take,
how many in your family, and your own spending. We have
a full-itemized list of costs we think you will need to
account for.
Q.
Where will I live?
A.
As this is a permanent relocation, you would be best advised
to lease an apartment or house straight away. Rents are
around the $400 to $800 per month mark depending on what
you prefer. Since you won’t be there too often, you might
like to share the rent with another team or driver. There
are furnished apartments, share accommodations, and houses
to rent. When we know what position you have decided to
take, we can help you decide what area to live in. You might
like to stay in a hotel room until you locate your accommodation.
Q.
How do I get my visa?
A.
When the carrier approves your application, we send you
an "offer of employment" we then send you all
the necessary visa application papers and instructions.
Before you can apply for your residency visa, you must do
a medical, and obtain criminal history reports for all countries
that you have lived in for longer than 6 months. Visa processing
is done in Sydney for New Zealanders.
Q.
How long does the process take?
A. This
depends on what country you reside in. For Australians and
New Zealanders
approximately 5 months
from applying, UK up to 8 months. The bulk of the costs
would not need to be paid until your ready to go. A small
deposit will be required, to hold your position, when you
accept an offer of employment. **The time frame is determined
by your closest Canadian Embassy. It varies from country
to country.
Q.
Am I allowed to work for anyone else in the United States?
A.
You need to commit to the employer and to the province for
a minimum 2-year period.
Q.
How many miles will I drive?

miles for teams are 18,000 to 22,000 per month. Solo drivers
average 10,000 to 12,000 per month.
Q.
How long is the job for?
A.
This is a permanent
position and requires a minimum 2-year commitment to the
carrier that sponsors you. The longer you work for the employer
after 2 years, the more benefits you gain. (Please remember
this prior to applying for a position). You will have paid
vacation time after 1 year, etc as per Canadian and company
employment rules.
Q.
How do I apply?
A.
If you wish to proceed read through the essential qualifications
